“Why didn’t you get another unit?”
“Can you stay late to fit a walk-in?”

I didn’t become a physical therapist over a decade ago to hear those phrases every day. Like many PTs, I’ve spent most of my career in outpatient orthopedics and genuinely love the patients, the complexity, and the profession itself. But somewhere along the way, I realized I wasn’t burning out on physical therapy. I was burning out on the system surrounding it.

A colleague mentioned she had shadowed at OSSPT, and what she described felt almost unreal. Autonomy, flexibility, and support without productivity pressure or insurance driven care. She started part time, quickly transitioned to full time, and when I saw her not long after, the difference was obvious. She was less stressed, more present, and still fulfilled by the impact she was making as a clinician.

I’ve now worked part time at OSSPT for the past year, and the contrast has been immediate. When I walk onto the floor, I can focus on what matters most. Connecting with people, preventing injuries, and making a meaningful impact without worrying about units, CPT codes, or staying late to squeeze one more patient in.

Beyond treating injuries, I collaborate with leadership, support employee wellness, and build trust with people who often avoid traditional health care altogether. Being part of OSSPT has reminded me why I became a physical therapist in the first place and that it is possible to do meaningful work and build a sustainable career.

We see you. We’ve been there. And this model allows physical therapists to practice the way they intended.

If you’re exploring what the next chapter of your PT career could look like, we’d love to connect.
